Who's still standing? A few teams and #DaRundown Sports!

20131223-032114.jpg

It's been almost a month since you last heard from #DaRundown Sports crew but we are still here, alive and well. In the words of the Yonkers, New York poet DMX "We're not going anywhere/ We right here". Life imitating the NFL. #DaRundown has taken some major injuries at some key positions (computer). We went through a mid season scheme change (New Format) and you could probably say we had an under performing roster. We're not here to make excuses, only to work harder everyday to get better (in my coach voice). I have been promising some NBA coverage and probably have failed to give that as much shine as it needs. So going forward we be formatted into 2 different styles. One will be the stitching conversations together from a cast of insightful guest. The other will what be called #DaRundown Daily which is more fast paced and has more of tha flavor you love from us. We will also be adding some video blog entries on some interesting topics sports related and non. Big things expected to come. So rock with #DaRundown Sports this week and going forward. Blog is getting a makeover too! Thank you all for your support. And as always subscribe to the podcast this on iTunes. You can follow the podcast and the crew on Twitter by clicking the links below. Happy Holidays and enjoy the best part of the Football season.

#DRDS Ep. 5: KC cant find the dynamite, NO on top as Panther claw

(Courtesy of The Denver Post)

We look into the difference between being average at a position and being elite at that same position. As Peyton Manning in Vegas I’m mean on Sunday Night Football got his, but the Kansas City Chiefs defense didn't make it easy. The have a legit Super Bowl Defense and we get into what this does to the other teams clawing for that last spot. The NFL is on notice already for their record but if somehow someway Andy Reid finds that ACME dynamite laying around they would go straight to the Bowl.

The hottest division race might be the NFC South. We shoot the breeze about the Saints having the Panthers hot on their tails in what looked to be a runaway for the Saints. Most interesting enough the Saints have two late game against Carolina. Eazy believe the Panthers will be NFC Champions for some reason.

These and a few more topics are discussed on this week podcast. As always call in the show (385)-98-LEGGO and leave your take on what we speak on or what needs to be in the next show. You can do the same by using the #DRDS and get to any of the Twitter feeds. As always to keep up with us you can subscribe on iTunes

Episode 4 of the #DaRundown Sports Podcast on deck!!!! This week I'm joined in studio with Jez (@85Jez15 on Twitter) and my resident Philadelphia Eagles Mike Mobes. We went heavy on the NFC East and the chances that the Cowboys can hold off the rest of the Division. We figure out is this the end of Michael Vick and are the Giants the zombies of the NFL. The Saint coming off a big win against the Cowboys have Carolina hot on their tails. We discussed whether they can climb to the top of the Division or are the wrapping a Wild Card after a big win in San Francisco over a team that's very physical.Jay Cutler is back form and injury and....he's hurt again. Is it time for Chicago to move on form Jay Cutler? Josh McCown play good again and its time to take a hard look at the situation there. Plenty more in between. As always fan are welcome to join the conversation via Twitter, Google Plus, or just plain call or shoot us a text @ (385)-98-LEGGO (53446). I have a fan section dedicated to the call in ready to go as soon as we get them rolling in. As always subscribe on iTunes and look forward to seeing us real soon.

Week 5: #DaRundown Reaction

Monday Night Cap

What's really good? I'm on my New York ish this week to give a shout to Geno and them Jets put more dirt on the Atlanta Falcons season. It's more than that though. WTF is Mike Smith doing? Keep on leaving points on the field with the bad play calls. At half time of the last two games the Falcons left 2 field goals and opted to go for it in both instances. Its not a coincidence. Its bad coaching decisions, the same kind that keep from being in the Super Bowl. No creativity in the red zone. Boy they need Jackson back.

After School Special

What we learn this week?  Colts could win the Division if Matt Schaub continues with excessive use lotto scratch offs. The Saints could be the 2nd best team in the league. Detroit is Calvin Johnson. The Bears can't win a title yet. Tony Romo still gets a check. Anybody can beat the Jags and the Giants. (Could be good for the Giants looking at Clowney) In a few weeks there's going to be a lot of meaningless football and some division races that are going to be nothing less than intense.

Podcast Preview

We going to do our first official podcast this season. Why so late? Logistics to say the least. Its here be recorded going live. We going to get into the shaping of the playoff picture, talk about the QB situations around the league and touch a few rapid fire topics.

Week 4 Review: Who's a Contender?

jimmy graham

So if there was one thing I had problem with ,in an overall sense, is confirming anything beside the fact that Denver will give it to whoever comes. I'm looking at the Bengals like this is a good chance confirm they are contender for at least seeing Denver late in January. Is Cleveland D that good or is Cincy (really Andy Dalton) jus not ready to have a target on its back?

Watching Dallas vs San Diego game me more questions than a "First 48" interview. We thought maybe Dallas was a shoe in to take the division over and San Diego was a doormat team in the west. Phillip Rivers looks healthy and focused. Dallas just isn't consistent whatsoever. You can put a couple eggs in their basket but put a few up for later. You might end up scrambling those two. I just don't know about anything.

As long as you didn't underestimate Reggie Bush signing with Detroit then Sunday was not a surprise at all. Chicago is getting a lot of love because the offense is better and the defense is reputable but are made out be a great almost shutdown like. I feel like last year they some unrepeatable stats on a yearly basis. I'm not sure if DJ Williams is as smart as Brian Urlacher but at that position it makes a difference. Either way if the Packers don't come back strong this division up for grabs.

The same goes for the following Divisional opponents:

Dallas and Washington

New England and Miami

Cincinnati and Baltimore (Maybe Cleveland?)

And yes

Denver and Kansas City

In my opinion all these Divisions have a favorite but the slightest slip can change everything. I'll catch some flack for speaking against Denver but that's two games I have circled.

Atlanta isn't winning these 50/50 games they have won in years past and you can see that very year they win but they never dominate. No lie I'm a Saints fan but I'm still objective. The Saints D is looking better than I could imagined and Drew Brees has the other half of his brain back. Its not looking good for Matt Ryan and his bad deep accuracy issues. After Monday night New Orleans looks to me like at least a top 3 team in the league. NFC won't be a cake walk but damn I got at least half of the conference with no chance.

We'll go in depth on this in our first podcast of #DaRundown Sports coming this week.

This is #DaRundown Sports

Welcome to the blog to the podcast which is #DaRundown Sports. Much like the start of this NFL season this coming to you after much delay. No lightning on this side though. This is more of a thunderstorm of circumstances. That's neither here nor there. This is the about what you can get here but how I got here will be in the fold. This not a news operation so don't expect late breaking or exclusive Intel you can't get anywhere else. This baby is born out of the infotainment movement that is currently intruding the sports world. There are no journalist, no former players, coaches or analysts. So your wtf you got? Might not be groundbreaking but this my chance to bring what the fans think are important by asking them.

We will be exploring storylines that are going undiscussed on some platforms. Of course we wont be ignorant to anything that is dominating the headlines but we might look at some other angles based of information we or you as the fan feel like is overlooked. The #DaRundown is based in Atlanta, GA.  Personally the sports scene in Atlanta is undervalued in mainstream media. I'm hoping this movement will bring a lil more spotlight to it. Based on access alone you will see a lil more love to Atlanta area sports teams and the southern sports scene in general. No bias just geography. I won't lie to you, this won't be covering all sports.  I'm a football and basketball guy so guess what I talk about? Yeah, we will touch on others but those two will dominate. Sorry hardcore NHL and MLB fans gotta keep those to a minimum. The blog and podcast have a urban vibe because it's truly a P.O.M.E. (Google if you don't know but if the reference doesn't ring a bell, its a a 50/50 chance whether or not you actually like this podcast. Try it anyway)

As a podcast fan the main theme I have a problem with is the lack of diversity. No ones at fault here. The market only bares whats companies have access to and who wants access. I talk to my average peer and they don't even know the platform exist. For frame of reference I'm a twenty-four year old black male born in the midwest and for the most part raised in the Metro Atlanta area (but a Saints fan somehow, anyway). My people (insert Malcom X joke) have sooooo much to say but we don't use the tools we're given to make something of it. I'm hoping to start something here. I want to bring about more podcasts on different subjects and start a real movement to a underserved market.

Off that - There is a multitude of ways to contribute. For live interaction hit the twitter @DaRundownSports. Send us a email to darundownsports@gmail.com. You can even call the #DaRundown Shoutbox drop @ 385-98-LEGGO (385-985-3446) a line about whatever you feel like needs to be discussed. Please limit you message to about a minute. If its interesting enough we might call you back and get you on the show to elaborate. This space is for the people and shaped by them. I can't reiterate this point enough as we start on this new adventure. On two knees  begging for heavy feedback!!! Doesn't matter if its here, iTunes, or anywhere in between, I want this to be the best product possible and I can't do that without your input. In the words of Jalen Rose "Gotta give the people what they want".

Enjoy,
CL
