#DaRundown Sports Podcast Ep. 14: Super Bowl Preview, NBA David Stern Resigns

Wudup doe! #DaRundown Sports back for the third time this week. I hope you have been enjoying the new format and amount of content we are bringing.  Today Slim joins me again to preview the Super Bowl, talk about the Miami Heat getting blown out by the Oklahoma City Thunder the other day, and David Stern retiring and Jason Whitlock being very critical of the commish.

So all the talk is getting old and its time to play soon. Everybody's attention will be on this one game. You know I'm talking about the Super Bowl. To preview the game we break down a couple aspects. We pick our most interesting individual match up between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. Then I ask the question will a bad storm define Peyton Manning's career? It's so weird how the one game could damage the greatness of what will probably be a 20 year career. We wrap up by shooting the breeze about a few prop bets and then making our picks.

We follow up with a few stories in the NBA. Few nights ago if you were disconnected from the world Miami Heat got their ass handed to them by the OKC Thunder. Since Dwayne Wade was back you would think Miami would have enough fire power but Kevin Durunt aka Iceberg Slim just too much. (Dare I say Oklaham?) Even with Lebron going back and forth with Durant for a moment, they still couldn't match them bucket for bucket. The Heat played sloppy and definitely suffered from the number of turnovers committed. Last we discussed David Stern's resigning from the NBA as commissioner. He had a lot of impact on the league especially if you look from the growth standpoint. The revenue generated and the global reach of the game is impressive but Jason Whitlock of ESPN.com is very critical of Stern. he believes Stern gets credit for ESPN becoming prevalent, and coming a year before Michael Jordan came into the league.  These things are true but who's to say that just because these things come along you will be able to capitalize on them. He also blames.

#DaRundown Sports Podcast Ep.13: OKC Thunder Talk NFL and more with Brian Anderson from Rant Sports

Listen to #DaRundown Sports Podcast Ep.13: OKC Thunder Talk NFL and more with Brian Anderson from Rant Sports
AP233934284308Wudup doe! #DaRundown Sports comes for the second time week. Joining me on this episode is new friend of the show Brian Anderson (@MrAnderson035)from Rant Sports.  I had to have him on because what Kevin Durant and Oklahoma City Thunder are doing right now. Durant has been putting up 40 like he's on NBA2K14. (By the way I'm using the nick name Iceberg Slim because I'm agreeing with Jalen Rose.) We dove in about the other pieces that are making the team roll so hard. We agree it has something to do with Reggie Jackson and Scotty Brooks.

From there we talk a little more NBA, some NFL, and I get his Super Bowl pick. I asked why he felt so one sided about Carmelo's recent performance doesn't compare to Kevin Durant's display. I agree with some of Brian's points but I feel they are closer than he does.  For some reason he feels the Miami Heat are not a candidate to repeat as NBA champion. Siting Dwayne Wade's knee as the reason. The thing that gets me though is he list the Portland Trailblazers as being a better team and I can't say that I totally got that.

super-bowl-media-day-2014-live (1)

We wrap up the session by going on about a variety topics in the NFL. I get Brian to give his take on the Richard Sherman fine that came late last week. The way we keep here on #Darundown, I had to ask about a few pieces that he wrote. Saying that Robert Griffin would not become elite my question was why so down on RG3?  Then jumping into the hype machine and talking some Super Bowl. He has a list players that he feels that need to step up. I dissect it and give my own spin on the task. We did agree that Bruce Irving will have to step up in the run game though. To wrap things up I get his Super Bowl pick.

#DaRundown Sports Podcast Ep. 12: Pacers are sports "bridesmaids", NFL coaching moves, NBA trends

Listen to #DaRundown Sports Podcast Ep. 12: Pacers are sports "bridesmaids", NFL coaching moves, NBA trends

Wudup doe! Its #DaRundown Sports coming for the first time this week. For the Super Bowl we have at least 3 shows this week.  Slim (@Eazyslife) and I discuss plenty today. For starters Slim gave his takes from the NFL Championship Weekend and all the Richard Sherman overreactions.

[caption id="attachment_227" align="aligncenter" width="640"]These three QBs have one thing in common. These three QBs have one thing in common.[/caption]

From there he offers up his "Bridesmaids Theories" on the San Francisco 49ers and the Indiana Pacers. To put it quickly you have the 49ers who have been to three straight  NFC Championship games. He drew a comparison to Buffalo Bills of the early 90's. They won four straight AFC titles and lost in the Super Bowl every time. I feel they resemble the Donovan McNabb and Brian Dawkins' lead Eagles in the 2000's. They went to four straight NFC title games and went the Super Bowl the last time in the run and lost to the Tom Brady New England Patriots. Either one you can see the similarities of going deep in the playoffs and coming up short of the ultimate goal a championship. The 49ers are coming short and it will be something to watch over the years and to see what kind of narrative is built up over the years.

[caption id="attachment_226" align="aligncenter" width="640"]History repeating itself for the Indiana Pacers. History repeating itself for the Indiana Pacers.[/caption]

The other is history repeating itself with the Indiana Pacers. Late 90's into the 2000's the pacers had a run but couldn't  get past Michael Jordan for the most part. Fast forward into the present and the Indiana Pacers can't get past LeBron James. In both cases there is a transcendent  player in their way. This is looking like  the year where the Miami Heat look vulnerable with Dwayne Wade inconsitantly in and out of the line up. Couple X - factors on both teams are Luis Scola for the Pacers and Greg Oden for the Heat. Getting quality minutes in the playoffs from these two can give someone the advantage. Oden gives the Heat much needed size and Scola is a players who has played in starting lineups so is more than capable of handling major minutes if needed for injury or foul trouble.

[caption id="attachment_228" align="aligncenter" width="640"]Caldwell and his coordinators Caldwell and his coordinators[/caption]

After that we go in on the coaching moves in the NFL. All the head coaching positions have been filled. Most notably we discussed the Jim Caldwell to the Detroit Lions in depth. For one even though I am a Saints fan, I am partial to the Lions because of the hometown connection. I root for them to do well except against New Orleans. I was rather underwhelmed by the hire but I am intrigued by the choices of coordinators. He picked Teryl Austin to be his defensive coordinator. He will be a first play caller in the NFL as he was with Caldwell in Baltimore as the secondary coach. He doubles down on first time play callers by picking Joe Lombardi who was the Quarterbacks coach for the New Orleans Saints. Neither have anything  of note but the pedigree of the programs they come from. I will say this Lombardi's first year in New Orleans? 2009 when the New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl and Drew Brees had his best year ever completing 70% of his passes that year.   It does show how much of a Tony Dungy disciple he is by his picks. Dungy is notable for bringing up coaches and gving them opportunities to shine under him. People don discuss his coaching tree but it includes Mike Tomlin, Lovie Smith,  Leslie Frazier, and Jim Caldwell. A pretty impressive lineup especially since all are men of color and help head coaching jobs.  As you can see Lovie Smith didn't hesitate to bring Frazier on as his defensive coordinator. So yea its a family affair in a sense.

We'll be doing one big Super bowl late next week where I will get a fan from both sides to state their case of why their team will win and we will make our picks. Early on look for a NBA podcast in the week. to hold you over.

Stay tuned to the #DaRundown Sports is in growing and evolving.

Wudup doe! #DaRundown Sports checking again with something to hold you over until the new format officially takes place. I'm going to keep this short because I'm felling under the weather. I had a chance to catch up with some past contributors to #DaRundown Sports Podcast. Joining me today were my homeys Jez (@85Jez15 ) and Mike Mobes. We discussed our NFL Championship weekend takeways. We dive into the Richard Sherman non- controversy. I also have a quick QB debate with Jez that got a lil heated. I had to leave alot of things on the cutting room floor because of a few reasons. But never fear there's always next time.

#DaRundown Sports Ep. 10: J.R. Smith rides pine, Arian Foster drama, NBA trades, NFL Championship Weekend

Listen to #DaRundown Sports Ep. 10: J.R. Smith rides pine, Arian Foster drama, NBA trades, NFL Championship Weekend

Wudup doe! #DaRundown Sports is back on again this week coming to you with a variety of topics. We ready turn up as we have been building up this fresh new format. We keeping 100 as always but making this version of sports talk into a new variety Few topics on the set list today. JR smith can't get to together. A minor trade among  NBA teams.  Arian Foster has baby mama drama and lastly we preview the NFL championship weekend in a new segment of the show

JR Smith Mike Woodson blow up

[caption id="attachment_189" align="aligncenter" width="589"]JR Smith been friendly with the pine. (Courtesy of faniq.com) JR Smith been friendly with the pine. (Courtesy of faniq.com)[/caption]

We have JR Smith's situation boiling like grits on Al Green. Its bad enough the New York Knicks over paid for another offensive only player. They ignored all the warning signs as recent as this past post season. Spinning it forward we have JR and Mike Woodson not getting along. Its more made obvious that even after two good games from Smith, Woodson benched the reigning 6th man and refused to talk about it afterwards. I can't tell if a trade is imminent but I doubt they will go far. Straight like dat.

Miami in 3 way trade

When I heard the Miami Heat were involved in a trade, my initial thought was that they had either acquired a big man or got a piece to put lock them in for a ring again. Here's what I see from the trade:

Miami Heat: Joell Anthony is expendable cuz Greg Oden could be ready and there looking to shake things up in the back court. Would they be not be a geat destination for an Andre Miller?

Golden State Warriors: Making a move to make another.

and the Boston Celtics have more picks than a black power rally. Danny Ainge is targeting something specific.

Arian Foster caught up

[caption id="attachment_190" align="aligncenter" width="640"]Arian Foster with jumpoff turned baby mama (Courtesy of TMZ) Arian Foster with jumpoff turned baby mama (Courtesy of TMZ)[/caption]

For the NFL the one thing that's getting uglier by the minute is Houston Texans running back Arian Foster latest headline. According to reports, Foster has a baby on the way with a Houston woman, Brittany Norwood. She took to the local media to speak out about the star running back and his brother pressuring her to have an abortion. When trying to get some comments from Foster at his home, a local FOX affiliate was met by an emotional and seemingly distraught Arian. " Please get off my property, man. Please, bro. Please, man. Is your story that important to you? Is it really, dog? Do you know how this shit is tearing me apart?" This is just the beginning of a legal nightmare where Foster's side feels she is an attention whore who is trying to become a reality star. Stay tuned and lets see if the conservative Texans fans will fire him via social media.

Who you riding with?

[caption id="attachment_191" align="aligncenter" width="640"]This weekend will put old school vs new school in the big game (Courtesy of MMQB) This weekend will put old school vs new school in the big game (Courtesy of MMQB)[/caption]

Lastly we preview the NFL Championship weekend. New England Patriots take the Denver Broncos for a ride to the Super Bowl. Brady vs. Manning for the 15th time. San Francisco 49ers fly up to see the Seattle Seahawks, whose fans are already doing the Super Bowl shuffle. we name our reason for our picks in a new segment call Gotta Know That! @Eazyslife and myself  will doing this section in a few forms coming up

We appreciate the love and are enjoying the conversation we are having you all the real fans out there.  I will continue support everyone who is supporting me.
